Tuesday Talk: Copycat Recipes

Today is the 3rd Tuesday of the month where Ashley and Erika host a Tuesday Talk linkup.  Their instructions: “Let’s chat about all the things!  Things that make us happy!  Things that make us sad, mad and things that make us laugh, etc.  Just anything you’d like to chat about!”

Well something that makes me happy is a good copycat recipe.  Paying them forward is just fun to do too.  I’m sharing two copycat recipes with you today that are easy and tasty.

First up, who remembers when Las Vegas/Henderson had The Old Spaghetti Factory?  I miss it.  I still get my fix in other cities but then when I found this recipe for their Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter Spaghetti, I was so excited.  This is their signature menu item described as, “a toothsome treat for cheese lovers.”  The cheese apparently is so popular, it has its own website.  You can enter your location to find which grocer carries the cheese near you.  The recipe takes only a few minutes to whip up and it tastes exactly like it does at the restaurant.  Try it for yourself…

Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter Spaghetti Copycat Recipe

Ingredients:
1 pkg. spaghetti 1 lb
2 cubes REAL butter
1/2 to 3/4 lb. Mizithra Cheese grated

Instructions:
1. Cook pasta in a large pot of salted, boiling water until al dente. Drain. While pasta is cooking, start slowly melting butter over medium heat until golden brown. The butter will foam up and rise, but just keep stirring until it turns brown and has a sweet caramel smell.
2. Remove pan from heat and allow the sediment to settle at the bottom of the pan for a few minutes.
3. Do not stir up the sediments in the pan, you want the clear butter separated from the stuff at the bottom. Pour the browned butter into a separate bowl, again, keeping the butter separated from the sediment.
4. Toss the pasta with the butter when it is ready. Sprinkle with Mizithra cheese to taste.
5. Serve warm.

The second recipe I'm sharing is for Mango Black Tea Lemonade copied from Starbucks.  I tasted this drink for the first time this summer and got hooked instantly.  Mango anything is my favorite.  The other day I ordered it at Starbucks and they told me they don’t have it anymore.  Gasp!  I don’t know if that meant that location didn’t have it available or that it is gone from Starbucks altogether.  However, fret not because here’s the recipe and a link to buy the ingredients.  Making it at home saves you a pretty penny.  Also, how popular will you be when you serve it at your next party?

Mango Black Tea Lemonade Copycat Recipe

1. Bring water to a boil

2.  Pour boiling water over (1) Tazo Iced True Black tea filter bag and (1) individual Tazo Passion tea bag in a 64 fl oz pitcher until it is half full.  Let it steep and then remove bags.

3.  Fill remainder of the pitcher to top with cold lemonade.

4.  Pump desired amount of Torani mango syrup into cup, add ice, pour in tea/lemonade mixture and mix well, then enjoy.

That's it for my Tuesday Talk.  Hope you enjoy some copycats soon!
